in April 09 we worked with the students of Montessori Country Day School to make two enormous origami cranes.

The two cranes were each folded from a single piece of large paper, then reinforced with cardboard and covered with painted canvas.

The children participated in every step: folding, assembly, choosing of the patterns the canvas would be painted with and finally painting and
attaching that canvas. You can read a "Reading Eagle" newspaper article about them here:

once the giant cranes were completed, they were displayed in the windows of a Baldwin Brass store.
During one weekend in April 09, we had a table at BB where we taught children how to make origami and demonstrated/displayed various Japanese art forms
(origami, manga, chiyogami, etc).

During this weekend, we also spoke on Jo Painter's program on WEEU radio.

we were also at a table at the Reading Cherry Blossom Festival in 2009, down by the river. I demonstrated origami and talked to passers by about the giant cranes, Japan and Japanese culture. we also organized student volunteers to help run an origami-making craft table.

for the Cherry Blossom Festival 08, we put together an exhibition of historical manga (Japanese comic) books dating back to the 30s.

Along with these books, the exhibit had work by current Japanese manga-ka (manga artist) Ami Matsuoka. The hall outside the exhibition room was lined with manga-style work from area schools.

a few summers ago I supervised and worked on the painting of GoggleWorks' Building 6.

This photo was taken when we were halfway through painting one of the walls.
